Coddle Terms of Service
Effective date: July 11, 2026
Welcome to Coddle. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Keon Lee and Eddi Xie, the operators of Coddle ("Coddle," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
1. What Coddle is
Coddle is a cooking app that keeps track of the ingredients in your kitchen and uses AI to generate recipes matched to what you have, your dietary preferences, and your skill level. Coddle is currently free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. Coddle is operated from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Coddle. If you are between 13 and 17, you may use Coddle only if your parent or legal guardian reviews and agrees to these Terms on your behalf and agrees to be responsible for your use of Coddle.
3. Your account
- Provide accurate information when you register, and keep your email address current.
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity on your account. Tell us at support@coddle.app if you suspect unauthorized access.
- One account per person; don't share accounts or use another person's account.
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete Account). Deletion is immediate and permanent — see the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data.
4. AI-generated recipes
Recipes in Coddle are generated by artificial intelligence (Claude, an AI model from Anthropic), guided by your preferences and ingredients.
- You own your recipes. To the extent we hold any rights in the recipes generated for you, we assign them to you.
- AI output may not be unique. Similar or identical recipes may be generated for other users — that's inherent to how AI generation works, and neither you nor we can claim exclusivity over a generated recipe.
- AI output may be imperfect. Generated recipes can contain errors — in ingredients, quantities, times, temperatures, or nutritional estimates. Use your judgment; Section 5 matters.
- We don't warrant originality. We do not represent or warrant that generated recipes are original or do not infringe third-party rights. If you publish or distribute a generated recipe beyond personal use, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for your own rights clearance.
If a generated recipe seems inappropriate or unsafe, please report it using "Report this recipe" on the recipe screen so we can investigate. We may — but have no obligation to — monitor, review, remove, or restrict any generated recipe or user content, and receiving a report does not create an obligation to act, or to act within any particular time.
5. Recipe safety and allergy disclaimer — please read this one
Coddle's recipes, including any ingredient lists, nutritional estimates, and cooking instructions, are AI-generated suggestions provided for informational purposes only. They are not reviewed by chefs, dietitians, or food-safety professionals, and they are not dietary, nutritional, or medical advice.
You are responsible for your own food safety. Before cooking or eating anything Coddle suggests, you must:
- Check every ingredient against your own allergies, intolerances, and dietary restrictions. Coddle's dietary-preference filters are a convenience, not a guarantee — an AI-generated recipe may include or fail to flag an allergen despite your settings.
- Follow safe food-handling practices, including verifying that meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs are cooked to safe temperatures, regardless of what a generated recipe says.
- Consult a doctor or registered dietitian before relying on any recipe or nutritional estimate in connection with a medical condition, diet, or treatment.
Assumption of risk. Cooking and eating involve inherent risks, including allergic reactions, foodborne illness, and injury. You assume all risks arising from your preparation and consumption of any recipe, and you agree that your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with any recipe is to stop using it.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of the content you put into Coddle — your inventory, ratings, and written feedback. You grant us a limited license to store and process that content solely to operate and improve the service (for example, storing your inventory and using ingredient names to generate your recipes). This license ends when you delete your content or your account, except as described in the Privacy Policy's retention section.
7. Acceptable use
Don't:
- Use Coddle for anything unlawful, or to generate content intended to harm others;
- Scrape, bulk-export, or systematically collect recipes or other data from the service, or use Coddle's output to build a competing recipe dataset or service;
- Abuse the recipe-generation or photo-scanning features (e.g. automated requests, circumventing rate limits);
- Reverse engineer, probe, or interfere with the app, our servers, or security features;
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
8. Third-party services
Coddle relies on third-party services, including Anthropic (AI generation), Firebase (authentication), and our hosting provider. Your use of Coddle is also subject to any applicable third-party terms, including the Apple App Store and Google Play terms (see Section 16). We are not responsible for third-party services we don't control.
9. Termination
You can stop using Coddle and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially violate these Terms, with notice where practical. Sections 5, 6, and 10 through 16 survive termination.
10. Disclaimers
Coddle is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that generated recipes will meet your expectations or requirements.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law: (a) we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of Coddle; and (b) our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the service is limited to US $100.
These limitations do not apply where prohibited by law — including any liability for death or personal injury to the extent applicable law does not permit it to be limited — and nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Coddle and its operators from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from (a) your violation of these Terms, (b) your misuse of the service, or (c) content you submit.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable in it, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts located in Vancouver, British Columbia, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, nothing in this section deprives you of mandatory protections of the law of the place where you live.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Coddle evolves. For material changes we will provide reasonable advance notice — such as a notice in the app, an email to your registered address, or a notice on our website — before the change takes effect; continuing to use Coddle after that constitutes acceptance. The current version will always be at coddle.app/terms.
15. General
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest remains in effect. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us regarding Coddle. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to a successor or to an entity we form to operate Coddle. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
16. Apple App Store and Google Play terms
If you downloaded Coddle from the Apple App Store, the following applies:
- These Terms are between you and us only — not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"), and Apple is not responsible for Coddle or its content.
- Your license to use Coddle is limited to a non-transferable license to use it on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions (except that Coddle may be accessed by other accounts via Family Sharing or volume purchasing).
- We — not Apple — are solely responsible for maintenance and support of Coddle. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support.
- In the event Coddle fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund any purchase price you paid (Coddle is free, so no refund applies). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Coddle; any other warranty claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses are our responsibility.
- We — not Apple — are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to Coddle or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that Coddle fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer-protection or similar claims.
- In the event of a third-party claim that Coddle or your use of it infringes intellectual property rights, we — not Apple — are responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of that claim.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using Coddle.
- Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
- Questions, complaints, or claims: support@coddle.app.
If you downloaded Coddle from Google Play: to the extent these Terms conflict with the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement or Google Play's terms of service, those terms control for copies distributed through Google Play.
